Time Management In Dentistry
Do you feel like all you ever do is work, do you feel like your appointment book controls you? Do you wish you had more time to do the things you want to do and not just the things you need to do?
Now dentists, we can wish for more time but we all have the same amount of seconds in the day, its what we do with our time and how we manage activities and ourselves that make all the difference.
Today I’m going to discuss the importance and benefits of managing you, your time and planning.
Never Enough Time?
I don’t know about you but I guess you’ll be able to relate – do you find yourself really frustrated about how much you have to do every day in your dental practice and how you never seem to have enough time to get it all done?
Are you overwhelmed by the amount of tasks and paperwork that you have to do to manage and run your dental office?
Are you resentful that instead of spending time with your friends and family doing the things that you enjoy you have to make sacrifices and feel torn between what you’d like do and what you have to do?
Do you find yourself having to finish off things at work after hours or you are taking work home because you don’t have time to do it during your day?
If this is you or you’ve answered yes to any of those questions I can help you get balance in your life so that you can enjoy your time and your work and free you up so you have more time at home with friends family and enjoying their company, so you can nurture your relationships.
Time Management is The Foundation of Your Dental Practice
Imagine a great building, we can admire its structure, engineering and architecture but without a great foundation for it to stand on it falls a part.
If you don’t know how to manage your time and care for yourself your foundations get eroded and your sense of wellbeing, clarity and ability to hold it all together collapse.
Without proper planning and time organisation you find yourself like the plate spinning circus act constantly running back and forth trying to keep your spinning plates from falling but you never actually get anything done.
So while we think we can control or manage time, we can’t – it ticks by at 60 seconds per minute whether we like it or not. What makes the difference is how we manage ourselves, plan and organise the day. How we prioritise, focus and utilise our time is what gives us the best results.
Time Management for Busy Dentists
Time management, order, structure and organisation in your day, life and dental office or the lack of it means you will have either flow or chaos in your life.
You need planning for you and your time to get things done to the best of your ability or you will be rushing around chasing your tail never having time to do everything failing to complete things so you’ve always got lots of things on the go.
This makes you feel stressed and overwhelmed, and then you don’t know where to start and end up putting things off and getting even further behind.
How Do You Manage and Protect Your Time?
I’d like you to take a few moments to think about and make a review of the last day or week and consider how well structured your time is?
Is it causing pain in your dental office, is everyone always too busy that they can’t get stuff done or is it that you lack time management and proper planning.
Can you see that your time management isn’t what it could be and that it’s creating unnecessary stress and chaos, it’s wearing you and your team out.
Would you like to have a dental office that flows, where tasks get completed and there is a feeling of calm and order? Well the only way to achieve that is to better manage your day and yourself.
